Gain insight into why our brain does not like feedback
In Learning Lab ‘Grrr... feedback’ we look at why it can be so annoying to receive feedback. We all have a social brain, which makes rejection hurt both literally and figuratively. In response, our primal instincts kick in. We investigate how these are expressed in the 21st century.
Feedback can sometimes be scary or even hurtful. And that is logical if you look at our past. We humans are social animals. We have always lived in groups and not without reason. To protect ourselves from danger, to find food and especially at birth, we needed each other.
“In other words, the better we were in the group, the higher our chances of survival.”
And that’s why even today we are wired to ‘belong’. In this Learning Lab, we look at why our social brain sometimes makes receiving feedback difficult and how we can get around this mechanism.
Your learning journey
This Learning Lab is divided into 4 different chapters that each add extra information to the topic. In the first two chapters (let’s explain & let’s dive deeper), the topic is explained in detail so that you are fully included. In the third chapter (let’s process) we offer information to process the topic even better and finally in chapter 4 (let’s reflect) we give you some exercises to get started yourself.
LET'S EXPLAIN
The explainer video frames our social brain and explains why we prefer to avoid the risk of rejection.
LET'S DIVE DEEPER
In the deepdive the theory is explained in an E-magazine and we look at what happens when we are rejected.
LET'S PROCESS
The processing is a video quiz about our social brain.
LET'S REFLECT
In the self reflection we will look at the way your primal instincts are expressed when you receive feedback that affects you.
